Can I apply for a job if I don't meet the geographical requirements?

This is what to do if you're not based in the geographical regions the job listing is asking for.

You'll see that many job listings at We Work Remotely have regional tags and time zones. They look like this:

regional restrictions and time zones in job listing

These tags immediately tell you what the geographical requirements for the job listing are. Job descriptions also often contain details about this, so be sure to read the job listings through to know if you meet the requirements they ask for.

Companies add regional restrictions to their job listings for many reasons, including:

  • Compliance issues
  • Collaboration times
  • Specific needs for the role

We still consider roles that have regional restrictions remote.

If you don't meet the requirements of a job listing:

1. Don't apply for the job

You won't be considered for the job, it doesn't matter if you meet the rest of the requirements and you're a qualified candidate. Don't spend time on an application that will be immediately discarded.

2. Look for jobs where you meet the geographical restrictions
